Overview

The Saronic, from the city’s doorstep

The Athens Riviera is the run of coast from Piraeus and Alimos down to Cape Sounion — marinas, swimming bays and, just offshore, the islands of the Saronic Gulf. You can be aboard within half an hour of central Athens and at anchor off Aegina or below the Temple of Poseidon by lunch. It’s the easiest day on the water in Greece to reach, and one of the most rewarding.

From a full-day cruise to the islands to a fast private transfer to your hotel jetty, every boat is crewed by a professional skipper who knows the coast, the wind, and the calmest place to swim on any given afternoon.

  • A professional skipper on every charter and transfer
  • Hand-picked Saronic fleet, from RIBs to motor yachts
  • Transparent pricing — no paperwork marathon

A coast guide, by sea

The Athenian coast and the near islands of the Saronic open up from a deck — ancient headlands, car-free harbours and swim stops the road never reaches. Six places worth planning a day around.

Cape Sounion

The Temple of Poseidon has stood on the cliff at Sounion for 2,500 years, watching for ships coming home to Athens — and the sea is still the way to arrive. Skippers time the run for late afternoon, anchoring below the marble columns as the light turns gold and the day-trip coaches leave. It’s the most dramatic anchorage on the Attica coast, and a swim under the temple to finish.

Vouliagmeni & Astir

Vouliagmeni is where Athens goes to swim — a string of deep-blue bays, pine-backed peninsulas and the Astir headland, all best seen from the water. Anchor off the rocks for a morning swim, tender in for lunch at a beach club, or just drift past the smartest stretch of the coast. It’s ten minutes from the marina and feels a world away from the city.

Aegina

The closest of the Saronic islands, Aegina makes the natural anchor of a day cruise from Athens. Swim off the boat at Agia Marina below the Temple of Aphaia, tie up in the busy little harbour for a plate of the island’s famous pistachios, or run round to the quiet coves on the west coast. Forty minutes out and a complete change of pace.

Agistri

Tiny, green Agistri sits just off Aegina, ringed by pine trees that run right down to clear, shallow water. It’s the Saronic at its quietest — a place to anchor off Aponisos, snorkel over pale stone, and have the cove to yourselves while the bigger boats stay at Aegina. An easy add-on to a day cruise, and a favourite swim stop for our skippers.

Hydra

Further down the Saronic, Hydra is worth the longer run — a perfect stone amphitheatre of a harbour where donkeys still do the work cars do elsewhere. Anchor off the town or in one of the swimming coves along the coast, tender in for lunch on the quay, and feel the centuries drop away. Best as a full-day charter on a faster boat, with the wind behind you home.

Lagonisi & Anavyssos

Between Vouliagmeni and Sounion the coast unwinds into a series of shallow, sandy bays — Lagonisi, Anavyssos, Saronida — that the main road mostly passes by. They’re the easy, unhurried middle of an Athens charter: anchor in turquoise water, swim ashore, lunch on board, and carry on south toward the temple at your own pace. Calm, close, and almost always sheltered.
